Remember Every Whisky: The Story Behind Our Launch
Welcome to DramShed, and thanks for joining us for our very first blog post. This space will be our home for news, important updates and deeper insights into the project, enabling us to express what we’re building, why it matters, and why we hope you will love it. But before we start, a bit about us. We live in the UK and enjoy socialising and the not so occasional Dram. Over the last number of years, we have built DramShed as a reflection of our love of whisky, but more importantly the experiences that wrap around this truly special drink. As we touch on in our About page, this project has grown since 2020, when covid-19 was ravaging the UK and we were cast into the darkness of national lockdown. Not being allowed to enter each-others homes, we would open a window at the front of our houses to share a dram and catch up on life; a rare moment of connection. It reminded us that sharing whisky is about far more than the liquid in the glass; it’s the setting, the company and the story that matter too. During those conversations, we began discussing the idea of creating a place where people like us could share and celebrate their whisky collections. That idea grew into DramShed.
So why DramShed? We’ve all been there. You’re at a friend’s place or at a bar and you taste a whisky that is just perfect. It hits every note; a dram you instantly love. But a few weeks later, you struggle to recall the specific details. What was the exact bottling? What made it so memorable? It's the classic dilemma for any of us who love whisky: the constant challenge of tracking the highlights, noting the lowlights and figuring out what to explore next. This is the exact problem we set out to solve.
The fleeting notes, the memorable bottles, and the experiences with friends are all part of a story that, until now, had no permanent home. Our initial goal back in those lockdown days was simple: to create an online hub where whisky lovers could record their personal journey, from the bottles they own to the drams they've tasted. We have created a set of intuitive tools that help you manage your whisky experiences, a way to give permanence to the temporary experience of tasting a great dram.
More Than a Notebook: The Tools for Your Journey
The goal of any community is to provide real, personal value to every single member. The tools on DramShed are designed to be a seamless part of your tasting experience. This is your personal space to document, reflect, and grow your passion. Here are the core features we built to help you capture and share your whisky journey:
Your Whisky
Think of this as your personal digital whisky shelf. DramShed enables your virtual collection where you can log every single bottle you own. You can add images and information, personalise it with a story, track important details like the date you opened it, and archive your finished bottles. For those into the finer details; record whether the bottle is naturally coloured, chill filtered or cask strength. Detail the type of cask used for maturation and finish, and use our ten point rating system to accurately record your tasting experience. Filter and sort your DramShed by rating, date tasted, distillery and even age statement. DramShed ensures you have a perfect, comprehensive history of every whisky you’ve ever owned, long after the last drop is gone.
Your Tastings
This feature makes it easy to record every whisky you taste, no matter where you are. A more streamlined interface than your DramShed (whiskies you own), the tastings input is designed for speed - e.g rapid input at an event or at a bar. The tastings section allows you to utilise the same unique ten-point tasting system used for your DramShed enabling you to still capture your honest impressions, from the absolute highlights to the occasional disappointments. Once your notes are logged, you can effortlessly share them with friends through messages or on social media, ensuring a tasting is never forgotten but always remembered.
Your Friends
Whisky is meant to be shared. The platform allows you to connect with friends and expand your journey beyond your own collection. By sharing virtual access to your collections and tasting notes, you can easily explore, compare, and get recommendations from people you actually trust. But as powerful as these personal tools are, they're just scratching the surface.
The DramHive: Building a Collective Whisky Brain
DramShed may start as your personal notebook, but it quickly becomes something much more. Every rating you leave, every tasting note you jot down, and every bottle you log fuels a shared, community‑driven engine we call the DramHive. There will be more on this as the project grows, but our intention is that our data will unlock deeper, more personalised insights, shaped by real whisky drinkers. For now though, please enjoy our initial launch offering. We hope you love it.
